Ratanui Medical has been a group practice in Henderson for over 60 years with a long history of commitment to provide medical care to the community. The practice moved from Ratanui Street to Lincoln Road in 1989 to be in a purpose built building. The two principal doctors are Dr Chris Wong and Dr Joanna Lang working with assistant GPs, a GP Registrar and a team of nurses and administration staff.
Dr Chris Wong
Chris is the senior member of the team having been at the practice for over 30 years. He is an Honorary clinical teacher with the University of Auckland and teaches medical students and GP Registrars. He has an interest in chronic disease management, minor surgery and performs vasectomies. Chris loves the outdoors, is a keen tennis player and a DIY handyman.
Dr Joanna Lang
Joanna is originally trained in Poland and has an interest in women’s and child health. She takes pride in being able to help her patients when they are in need. She speaks Polish and English and enjoys the performance arts when she is not busy in the garden or with her 5 beautiful grandchildren.
Dr Abigail Smith (Abby)
Abby is from Northland and trained at Auckland Medical School. She works part-time as she has three young children. She has a particular interest in Women's Health and Paediatrics. Abby currently works Thursdays and Fridays and from 10am-2pm on Tuesdays.
Dr Michael Wang
Michael is originally from Shanghai, China. He trained at Otago Medical School (NZ) and has recently started a career in General Practice. He has a special interest in mental health. Michael speaks Mandarin Chinese and is interested in snow skiing and motorcycles.
Patients call him “Dr Michael” as his surname is pronounced ‘Wong’, to prevent being him being confused with Dr Chris Wong.
Michael is available for the Mental Health Clinics on Tuesday afternoons, every fortnight.
Dr Gunpreet Sethi
Gunpreet was trained in India and was an Orthopedic Surgeon for 17 years. He is now working with a special interest in bone and joint problems and minor surgery. Gunpreet believes in the holistic approach in client management. He loves to explore and spend time with his family. He is also known to enjoy playing and following cricket.
Dr Willy Wang
Dr Willy Wang is english and chinese mandarin speaking and an Auckland University graduate. He has experience in urgent care and surgical cases. Willy helps with seeing our more urgent cases on Thursdays from 10am-6pm. He is interested in medical research and a proud “foodie”.
Dr Antonio Medina
Antonio graduated from and has had 30 years experience as a General Practitioner from Germany and now residing in Auckland, he speaks both German and Spanish. His experience is in ENT presentations and urgent care but he is quickly adapting to the GP environment. He enjoys driving German made cars and cooking ethnic delicacies.

Anya Tovey — Wellness Advisor / Health Improvement Practiitioner
Anya is born and raised in Auckland. She completed her training at Massey University, the University of Auckland, and the University of Melbourne. Anya is experienced in supporting clients to navigate challenges and improve their physical, mental, and social wellbeing.
She can support patients with Stress, sleep, anxiety, depression or feeling down, coping with physical health conditions, relationship challenges, drug and alcohol concerns.
Anya works Monday, Thursday, Friday
In her free time you can find her gardening or making pottery.
Karla Granville — Health Coach
Karla works Monday Tuesday and Wednesday.
The role of the health coach is to sit alongside people to gain knowledge, skills and confidence to become informed and active in their healthcare.
Together we can help make a plan for you with small steps and changes in behaviour, help you stay accountable as you put things into practice. Small steps can make a big difference.
Although it is a non-clinical role there are a multitude of areas that I can support you with; my scope includes healthy living, exercise, managing stress, understanding food, diabetes management, high blood pressure, cholesterol, weight management – and many other wellness & lifestyle issues!
Please book in via reception for an initial consultation (around 20-30 mins)- or ask your Dr to be introduced at your next appointment.
I can provide support in clinic or over the phone and the it’s free for registered patients.
We can also connect you with further support services- self management education programs, smoking cessation, Awhi Ora Community support.
